This month sees the release of Her Montana Cowboy, the third book in my series The Duggans of Montana, published with Totally Bound. I’ve really enjoyed writing this series because as one sibling’s story unfolds, the reader gets to see more of the characters from the previous books in the series. Her Montana Cowboy is the story of Huyana and Matthew Duggan.
All stories have themes and mine feature a variety of different ones, but as I write erotic romance, love is obviously the central theme. This love is passionate, life-altering, mind-blowing and yet grounding. Only by surrendering to this love, and by finding a way forwards to live with this love, can the characters find their happy ever after.
However, love comes in many forms, and when I set out to write my series The Duggans of Montana, I wanted to create a family unit where love and loyalty were of paramount importance to the characters. Each of the Duggan siblings falls in love, yet each one is also dedicated to their family.
Of course, families do not just consist of blood relatives—of people from the same background and with similar experiences—so I wanted to incorporate diversity in the characters whom the Duggans fall in love with. Some have endured hard childhoods, some harsh years in early adulthood and some have had to overcome obstacles that would test the strongest among us.
Here’s the blurb for Her Montana Cowboy:
Falling in love wasn’t part of Huyana’s plan, but when Matthew Duggan claims her as his own, she has to open her heart or risk losing everything.
Life has been tough for Huyana. From the moment of her violent conception, the odds were stacked against her.
Meeting Matthew Duggan and his family changes her life forever.
Family can be close. People can be kind. Love can be good.
But a lifetime of rejection and abuse is difficult to overcome and Huyana struggles to fully trust the man she loves. There are secrets in her past and she fears revealing them.
Can Huyana find the happiness she craves and allow herself to be claimed by her Montana cowboy?
And an excerpt:
Huyana followed Matthew and helped him to stretch out the large stripy blanket that had padded the seat of the wagon. She sat down and removed her bonnet, keen to enjoy the cooling breeze upon her face and head. Matthew sat at her side and unpacked the bundle Huyana had packed for them that morning. He handed Huyana some bread and cheese then cut up an apple with the knife he carried in his belt.
They ate in silence, staring off into the distance at the shimmering horizon. They were alone apart from the horse, which grazed nearby in the shade.
Properly alone for the first time.
Huyana washed down her food with some water from Matthew’s bota bag then waited. She wondered what Matthew was thinking, if she was in his thoughts. In town, she had been so certain they should be alone and that they would lie together, but now she worried she had been foolish and carried away by her own desires.
Once Matthew had finished eating, he removed his Stetson and placed it on the ground next to him then he ran a hand through his hair. When he shrugged out of his jacket, Huyana’s stomach flipped. Matthew glanced shyly at Huyana and her heart swelled. He was nervous. As nervous as she was. Perhaps she should help things along. She did not want to waste this opportunity. It was inevitable that they would be together. Why fight it? She needed him as she hoped that he needed her.
“Lie down,” she whispered. Matthew stared at her and she flushed from the roots of her hair to the tips of her toes. Did he want this?
He took her hand and kissed her fingertips then stretched out on the blanket, his long legs strong and muscular in his black pants, his torso broad in his shirt and waistcoat. He stared up at the canopy created by the trees above and Huyana was filled with determination.
She would lead this. She would take this man for herself.
She released her hair from its bun and shook it out over her shoulders then unbuttoned her blouse and skirt. She stood and slipped them both off, shivering with delight as the warm afternoon breeze caressed her skin. She quickly removed her stays then leaned over to take off her boots and stockings. Finally, when she was clad only in her shift, Matthew turned and looked at her.
“Huyana.” He held out a hand to her and she took it then she knelt at his side.
“Matthew. I want this. I want to be with you.” She moved over him and kissed him softly, moaning as his lips parted and their tongues met. The months of desire and fantasy welled up as they kissed, their mouths meeting fiercely as they tasted each other for the first time. Huyana straddled Matthew. He lifted up to meet her and she gasped as the front of his pants met her tender female flesh. Beneath the material of his clothing, he was hard and ready for her, and Huyana longed to release him so she could take him deep inside.
Hope you enjoyed reading about Huyana and Matthew’s first time together.
