Series and why we like them…

SexEd200A series can be a group of stories with a common thread, a family of siblings who each have heir own stories, a band of brothers like a military unit with each member getting his story. Some series have an overarching external plot that ties them together. Some series have a place that ties them together like a small town or a bar where you see some of the same people over and over—think Cheers or Ugly Stick Saloon.

As a reader, I like to know what happens next. After the characters resolve their conflicts, where do they go from there? In the Ugly Stick Saloon series, I get to revisit my characters who live in Temptation and Hold in the Wall Texas because they visit the Ugly Stick Saloon and invariably go there for advice. You see the owner, Audrey Anderson, and her man Jackson Gray Wolf as well as some of the waitresses whose stories have been told in the series. I love revisiting these characters and meeting new ones whose stories have yet to be told.

I wrote Sex Ed as one of my first Ugly Stick Saloon books. Lacey Lambert was a secondary character in that book, but my readers waned to see her story. Well I finally got around to writing her story. And the secondary character in her story, Cory gets to have his story in Boots and Roses, coming in July.

Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!

She wants no strings…but he wants it all.

After her philandering husband left her, Lacey Lambert found sanctuary, and a better class of friends, at the Ugly Stick Saloon. Where she learned that the best revenge—against her ex, and the “friends” who kicked her out of the Temptation Garden Club—is to live life to the fullest.

Now that her best friend is moving out of her apartment building, she’s feeling a little lonely. And more than ready for a little commitment-free sex with the hot new downstairs tenant.

Freshly divorced, Nick McBride isn’t looking for another failed relationship. But when the luscious brunette offers no-strings sex—with him and his brother—he can’t come up with a good reason to refuse.

After he gets over the shock that she likes it loud, long, and in front of an open window, he finds himself wanting more time with her. Maybe even on a permanent basis. But it’ll take every ounce of his cowboy charms to convince her to let him sweep her off her feet.

I have enjoyed this book and just posted a review of it though it may not be up yet. Great characters and I was delighted Lacey got over the gardening club!

  2. Tracie says:

I love to find a good series. ESPECIALLY after all books have been released, there is nothing worse than waiting for that next book to be released. I thoroughly enjoy visiting the Ugly Stick Saloon, just wish I didn’t have to wait so long between visits.
    Good luck and happy writing!

  3. Becky Ward says:

I enjoy reading series because I get to see what happens next either with who the family is or if it takes place in a town. If it takes place in a town, it is fun to visit and see what is happening in that town. I enjoy visiting the Ugly Stick Saloon.

Why do I love series? When I find a story I like, I’m invested in the characters. They’ve become a part of me and even though there may be a HEA, it feels even more real when you see their story expand. Brothers, sisters, friends, and towns all coming together as one. When I find a series that I love, I let my sister-in-law know so we are reading at the same time. It drives our husbands crazy wih us texting all night “Did you just read that?” or “I can’t believe they did that!”. The only gripe I have with series is the wait in between books, but I understand an author can only write so fast!

  5. Michelle V says:

Yay! I love the Ugly Stick Saloon series! I really love a good series and I also like to revisit characters from earlier books.

  6. Rhonda D says:

I love reading series because I get to hear more about my favorite characters and the secondary characters I love get their own story. Series are my all time favorite. Of course, I read so fast that I like to have most of the series released before I start (I can read 1-2 full books in a day). Thanks for sharing! I love The Ugly Stick Saloon Series!

  7. mawmom says:

I love that when you find a good series you have a go to when you want a good read of a type of book, I love The Ugly Stick Saloon series.

  8. Ronda Tutt says:

I love series because of that unity connection (friendship) between the characters that are part of the story. In a way it is like watching a soap opera and you get addicted to the drama and excitement. For me a series makes the first story last forever and that’s what I love. I love the fact every one in the story gets their happy ever after as if in reality in our own lives we all eventually find that perfect someone and our lives become complete.

The Ugly Stick Saloon series sounds fantastic.

  9. Lisa Guertin says:

I prefer to read series any more because when I connect with the characters and come to care about them (which happens when the story is well written) I want to know what happens next. When you read the next book, or even several down the line, it’s a nice breath of fresh air to re-connect with a favorite character and learn what’s happened to them. Kind of like meeting up with an old friend that you’ve lost touch with.

  10. Tiss says:

Yes, I love to read series and yes, I like when we find out about others from previous books. I also like a HEA that goes on to tell what the charactors are doing, after they fall in love and maybe get a scene of the wedding, or of a year later with a new baby.
There are alot of good series out there. Some just stop and you are left wondering what is going to happen next, but some continue with the next book and some don’t. Some are kind to us and continue on with the story.
Looking forward to reading the next Ugly stick saloon book. Thanks.

  11. Laurel S says:

I love series. It’s nice to be able to see what happens after the HEA in a previous book. Whether they are loosely related or deeply entwined doesn’t matter to me, if I like the first one the odds are good I’ll read them all (though it’s better for me if I find theme when they are a few books in, I get really impatient waiting for the next story).

  12. Cindy H says:

I love series books, I get to know the people in them better and I find out what happens to them thru other books.

  13. Mary Preston says:

While I do love series, I don’t like the waiting in between. I’m more likely to wait for a series to be complete & then read back to back. That’s just a slice of Heaven.

  14. Jacki C. says:

I like series – esp. series that has already been completed so I can read it from beginning to end 🙂

  15. Tammy Sommervold says:

I love a good series. Always like learning more about other charactors and finding everyone happy and settled.

I love reading series. Most of the time, you’ve already been introduced to at least one of the main characters. And I love catching up with characters whose stories I’ve already read.

    Can’t wait to read!!
