What setting comes to mind when you think of cowboy stories? Is it a ranch in Texas? Big Sky country of Montana or Wyoming? Front range of Colorado Rockies? Then there are the ranchers in the Dakotas. The cowboys running huge spreads in the Australian Outback. the caballeros in South America.
Cowboys don’t have to have certain settings. It’s a way of life, a cowboy spirit that makes a cowboy a the man he is. Hardworking, dusty, long hours and total commitment to the animals, the land and the people he loves.
Even when a
cowboy is transplanted to the streets of NYC, he carries his values with him. A cowboy’s word is his promise. He’s tough, he’s determined
and he’s gentle with his woman.
I chose Texas, ranches and a saloon for my Ugly Stick Saloon stories. But it could just as well have been the Dakotas, Montana or Colorado. It’s the people in the stories that brings the setting to life.
What settings do you prefer for your cowboys?
Here’s a sneak peak at my cover for BOOTS AND LACE, coming in March, the next release of the Ugly Stick Saloon stories. Love this cover!
BOOTS AND LACE
Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!
She wants no strings…but he wants it all.
After her philandering husband left her, Lacey Lambert found sanctuary, and a better class of friends, at the Ugly Stick Saloon. Where she learned that the best revenge—against her ex, and the “friends” who kicked her out of the Temptation Garden Club—is to live life to the fullest.
Now that her best friend is moving out of her apartment building, she’s feeling a little lonely. And more than ready for a little commitment-free sex with the hot new downstairs tenant.
Freshly divorced, Nick McBride isn’t looking for another failed relationship. But when the luscious brunette offers no-strings sex—with him and his brother—he can’t come up with a good reason to refuse.
After he gets over the shock that she likes it loud, long, and in front of an open window, he finds himself wanting more time with her. Maybe even on a permanent basis. But it’ll take every ounce of his cowboy charms to convince her to let him sweep her off her feet.

Doesn’t matter what setting you put a cowboy in he’s still going to be a cowboy with the same values. But I prefer reading about them out on the range, ranch or mountains more than in the city!

So true! But sometimes it’s fun to see how a cowboy handles being a fish out of water. I wrote a short story about one such cowboy who managed to find a way to fit into NYC life and added it to my Ugly Stick Saloon books. BOOTS AND PROMISES.

Jimmy Thomas is one hot piece of beef. I have been following Ugly Stick Saloon- so this is a definite buy for me. The snippet was just enough to get you interested, for those not familiar with series an intro to buy.
Thanks Suzy! Don’t you just love this cover? I think it’s one of the hottest so far!
Love the blurb for the latest Ugly Stick Saloon blurb, Jimmy Thomas is to die for hot and makes a fantastic looking cowboy. Carin
I like my cowboys anywhere but even better if they are working on a ranch.
Another story in your series. Congrats! Looking forward to it.
I enjoy reading about the environment and how people work with it, so outdoors on a ranch is good for me. Rodeo is an offshoot of that environment but has an atmosphere all its own.
Jimmy Thomas is a sincere and wonderful person. Can never get enough of seeing his pics, but this one is really great!
I love hot, hunky cowboy stories and your book sounds great. Congrats.
Sounds great. Can’t wait to read. I love Texas ranch cowboys…but that is not a requirement.
I like cowboys anywhere, even Hawaii! But I perfer SD/ND, Montana, Wyoming.
That sounds like one HOT book! Looking forward to reading it and your Jimmy Thomas picture, he must be after something really big, cause that is one big ass rope. Must have something really wild to tie down.
