An Author’s Bucket List by Guest Blogger Tara Nina

Most people don’t write a bucket list. Until that movie, The Bucket List, with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman came out in 2007, I had never even heard of a bucket list. Guess my head was in the sand on that one. LOL. So today, I gave this some thought and here is what I came up with and why.

1) Visit Scotland. My Cursed MacKinnons series is set in Scotland. It’s about seven brothers who were turned to stone in 1740 Scotland. The women they were destined to be with are setting them free in today’s time. I’ve studied Scotland in travel books and spoken with a lovely lass and fellow author, to make sure I get it right. But I’m sure it’s nothing compared to actually visiting and getting the feel of the country in person.

2) Visit Ireland. My mother’s family was from Ireland. I’d love to visit it and do the one thing she didn’t while she was there. She wouldn’t hang upside down and kiss the Blarney Stone. She was afraid they’d drop her.

3) Get Organized. I’m extremely disorganized. I’m lucky to find my shoes and my keys in time to rush out the door for work. I’m not a hoarder but I do have stuff shoved in boxes with the intent to get it filed someday. In this aspect, I wish I was more like my good friend and fellow author, C.H. Admirand. If I had a tenth of her organizational skills, I would be happily semi-organized.

4) Be Debt Free. I think this is self-explanatory.

5) My Own Office Space. We have been in the process for four years building an addition to our home. It’s supposed to be my office space. Unfortunately, I’m waiting on the electrician (my husband) to finish his portion of the process and of course we need money to finish it.

6) Hit the lottery. This would help rectify numbers 4 and 5. Oh and maybe even number 3 because I could hire someone to organize me. HaHaHa.

7) Make use of my Agent. I have a wonderful agent, Eric Ruben. He’s been patiently waiting for me to send him something ‘good’ to represent. Hopefully, this year will be the year I give him the novel to beat all novels and enter him and I into a bidding war with the major publishing houses. I can dream, can’t I?

8) Ellora’s Cave Publishing. These people have been wonderful to my family and me. I hope to become one of their top earners in the world of Erotic Romance. Maybe land in the same category as Jaid Black, Laurann Dohner, and Ann Jacobs. That would be a perfectly comfortable spot for me

9) Have a clean House. Number 6 would come into play on this one as well. I could hire a maid. Instead of those sexy women that are advertise for the hubby’s to hire to clean, I want the hot chiseled men, who clean in their undies, g-string, whatever. Not sure the house would get clean but at least it would be fun watching them try.
And last but not least, the one thing this author wants most before she dies.

10) Hit the New York Times Best seller list. Self-explanatory. What author doesn’t want to see their book on that list before they die?

I think we all had a bucket list or a wish list of sorts at one time or another. I know I did and I’ve slowly been crossing them off. Once I finished paying for the kids HS education I started to save that ‘school’ money and signed up for a trip to Scotland. After reading several authors about highlanders I had to visit. GO!! It is so beautiful and even more so after you visit sites that you’ve read, in your case written, about. I do like your list. Winning the lottery would be one way of solving some of those items for sure. LOL

Traveling to Germany would be on my list if I had one. My family came to America in the late 1800′s and I would love to see where they came from. And I wouldn’t say no to a stop in Scotland either! I’ve been living with Crohn’s disease and after being so sick for several years I decided that if there was something I really wanted to do I would do if my health let me. One thing I always wanted to do was skydive. Yep. I did it! I’m working on saving money for future adventures.

Suzlyne, You’ve got more guts than I do! wow! skydiving. You go! That’s awesome. Keep living the dream. And I hope they find a cure for Crohn’s. My day job is hospital related and I understand your pain. Don’t let it tie you down. Keep chasing those adventures.

Good Morning Eileen, thanks for encouraging me to go to Scotland. I’m jealous. I’ve been trying to save for a trip for years, but there always seems to be a new bill or household disaster (dead appliance, washer etc..) that steals that vacation fund every time. HaHaHa. One of these days I’m going to make it there. Thanks so much for commenting.

Your #1 and my #1 are the same! I have to get to Scotland (notice I said have to not want to) This is actually the only thing on my bucket list! My Great-Grandparents came to New England from Hawick Scotland in 1915. I have this great need to go back. Most of all I want to visit Fraser castle my ancestrial home!

Hey Tara! Am leaving a comment before baby Jack gets here for the day :) GREAT post!!! Thanks for being our guest blogger today…and PS you are amazingly organized if you have all those files you mentioned…so maybe you’re a part-time pantser! LOL. PS I gave up on my bucket list, it started as things to do before I turned 30, then revised to before I turned 40, and the heck with it…you know hold old I am (not saying) BUT good grief…maybe if I could do just one thing on my list maybe?

  6. Aloha, Tara! I’ll join you on your trip to Scotland! I have faith in your talents that the other stuff will come to fruition!

I relate to the organization for sure!! Great post!!

  8. I’m going to put Get Organized and Have a Clean House on my list as one item, as they are intertwined in my universe.

I ~highly~ recommend a trip to Ireland. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon. The people were lovely, helpful, friendly and polite. The single rude person through the whole trip was an attendant in a city parking garage. My new spouse and I toured Blarney Castle, and when we reached the setting of the Blarney stone, he turned to me and said, “You don’t need that, you already say the most beautiful thing!” so I didn’t. According to the literature, the old way of kissing the Stone was being held upside down by your ankles. (the stone is on the bottom of the battlements), but now you sit on a ledge, and lean backwards to drop your head between the ledge and the battlements. You hold vertical rails with your hands, and a stout fellow steadies you. There are also bars now, between you and the enormous drop, in case you slip….

    Must see:
Glendalough in County Wicklow was the most beautiful place I have ever been.
The Burren, with its rocky pavement, and wild assortment of strange and beautiful plants growing in the spaces between is one of the strangest landscapes ever. I pictured myself on some distant planet as I looked out over the plain. Rich assortment of archaeology – megalithic tombs, dolmens and ring forts.
