It’s Getting that Time of the Year

Hello everyone! Well, it’s getting that time of the year again. Yep, Christmas time is just around the corner. This year it’s time to buy a horse. Yes, we have horses now but my daughter wants her “own” horse.

So I happen to ask her what she wanted from Santa Claus and she drops the bomb that she wants Santa to bring her a horse. Well crap. I had a plan!! It didnt involve Santa dropping a horse off. No, I had planned to find a few prospect horses and take my daughter to ride each one and then decide together.

Some of you may know why I wanted to take her, some may not. I will tell you that buying a horse is much like getting married. You really have to love the horse to put in the work that goes with it. Horses are ALOT of work. Not only do they require food and water but you have to clean them, care for them, vet them when needed and they costs money!!

Now the dilemma of trying to explain to my child that not every horse she sees is the perfect one. I’m hoping that this weekend we can go visit some ranches and pick a good horse.

What are you planning for Christmas? Do you have any special gifts that keep giving? For example when I was in eighth grade I received a plastic bag with horse apples in it. Those apples were from my now ancient mare who still eats, poops, and runs around in the pasture.

thanks

Sayde

NO way should Santa just bring the horse… ask her first what colour she would like and male or female. That’s a start. Then decide if she’s big enough for an Appaloosa, Quarter Horse or whatever breed. Find out what she would like to do with the horse – reining, showjumping, trail riding? I do recommend some competitive riding, be it barrel racing or dressage, because that gives her a reason to improve her riding and helps her meet more horse owners her own age.

It is scary that Christmas is just around the corner. Good luck with the horse search.

Not sure of the Christmas plans, yet, this year. It’s the first year in about 25 years that my Mom and I will be with my sister, her kids and their kids. We haven’t had a big family Christmas in years.

I found a nice pair of Luchesse boots for myself that I’m going to talk my family into giving me. Does that count? LOL

I so understand about the horse and NO it shouldn’t be a christmas gift. I have spent the last year going through 4 horses to find the one that I hope is going to work for me. 2 of them I only had about a week, cause they didn’t work for me at all. Good Luck Horse hunting!

I have most of my Christmas done, but not all….
